The Madge Sessions #1 by Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac – The Vaudeville Years Of Fleetwood Mac 1968-1970

I have just bought the album ‘Fleetwood Mac: The Vaudeville Years Of Fleetwood Mac 1968-1970″ and was asked to write a review. I am NO word artist but felt I had to spread the word about one track on this album.  Here is what I wrote:

The whole album is good overall – don’t think it will be anything like the most well known era of Fleetwood Mac as this is ‘Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac’ and quite different. It’s from the early years of British rock when bands like Cream, Zeppelin and many others emulated the blues / rock music coming from the States, before they took that genre forward and into the ‘British Invasion’.

There are some tracks which leave me dead especially the imitation talking guy which really isn’t funny. BUT – it has one track that stands out as, for me, the best blues / rock track ever. If you love ‘Since I’ve Been Loving You’ by Zeppelin (and of course I very much do – it was my teen years) then you should listen to this track: The Madge Sessions #1
It lasts 17 mins 21 Secs, starts with a slow blues riff, slowly picking up pace, getting more and more rock – it’s as if the listener is being led on a journey from blues to heavy metal / rock. Then about 1/3 of the way through there is a ‘change’ that just blows me away. And then it really kicks in!

Sometimes I just listen to Mick Fleetwood’s drumming, how come his arms don’t fall off? Other times I listen to the guitars, which repeats the same riffs over and over with subtle variations, a bit like modern trance music. The whole thing fizzles out at the end as they run out of steam – unsurprisingly – plus there are a couple of false endings but for the most part it is a glorious track I have been listening to for something like 50 years and still play surprisingly often.

Now I have to listen to it again…
